Terms, disclaimer and privacy
Plain-language terms for using this site. Short, because the site does very little to you: it publishes articles, it links to products, and it stores nothing about you.
No warranty and no professional advice
Everything here is published for general information. It is written carefully and corrected when wrong, but it is offered without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose.
Nothing on this site is professional, legal, medical, or engineering advice. Emergency preparedness is situational, and no article can account for your circumstances.
Official warnings always win
This site discusses weather radios, scanners, and emergency communications. In an emergency, follow the instructions of the National Weather Service, local emergency management, and public safety officials. Where anything here conflicts with an official warning or instruction, the official source governs.
Transmitter and station data is reproduced from public sources, principally the National Weather Service. It can be out of date, and coverage claims are approximations. Verify locally before you depend on it.
Equipment
Follow the manufacturer's instructions for any equipment you buy. Test it before you need it, and replace batteries on a schedule. Radio equipment is subject to FCC rules; transmitting on most services requires a license, and it is your responsibility to operate lawfully.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, EmergencyRadio.org and its operator are not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of this site or reliance on its contents, including indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.
Affiliate links
Some links are affiliate links, which pay this site a commission at no additional cost to you. They are labeled in the text, and the full arrangement is described on the affiliate disclosure page. Recommendations are not sold, and no manufacturer or retailer has editorial input.
Privacy
This site does not run analytics, advertising, or fingerprinting code, and it does not set tracking cookies.
- What the server records. Ordinary web server logs: the page requested, the time, your IP address, your browser's user-agent string, and the referring page. These are used to understand traffic volume and to see which links are followed. They are not sold or shared.
- What the site stores in your browser. One local setting, and only if you explicitly visit a page with
?owner=1. It marks a browser as the operator's own so their clicks can be excluded. Ordinary visitors never trigger it, and it identifies nobody. - What happens when you follow an affiliate link. You leave this site for the retailer, who applies their own privacy policy and may set their own cookies. We receive no personal information about you, only aggregate commission reporting.
- Email. If you write to contact@emergencyradio.org, that message is kept in order to reply. It is not added to any mailing list.
- Children. This site is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from them.
To ask what is held about you, or to have a message deleted, write to contact@emergencyradio.org.
Copyright
Original text, measurements, and tools on this site are the property of the operator. Brief quotation with attribution and a link is welcome. Wholesale reproduction is not.
Product names and trademarks belong to their owners and are used here for identification only. This site is independent and is not affiliated with any government agency, manufacturer, retailer, or radio organization.
Changes and contact
These terms may change; the current version is always the one on this page. Questions, corrections, and complaints go to contact@emergencyradio.org.
